  General information about the publication
   Het Belang van Limburg (Hasselt, Belgium) is a regional daily newspaper for the Belgian province of Limburg. Circulation 115.000. Readers daily: 390.000. Market share 82%. Limburg has no big cities. Capital Hasselt has 70.000 inhabitants. Whole povince 800.000.
  Entry description
   The Cross Media project Limbolink was started in the autumn of 2008 by some journalists of the Entertainment/Culture department of the Belgian regional daily newspaper Het Belang van Limburg. With a low budget software package they created a web platform to connect all people in Limburg who make and love music; and to connect them all to the newspaper. The content – music, video’s, pictures, news – is delivered/uploaded made by the users themselves. One journalist keeps an eye on it as an administrator, others – in between their normal work – facilitate, manage. To this day 4.000 groups/artists are registered. Every month a professional jury selects a ‘band of the month’. This band gets automatically a gig in e a television show and gets a performance in a bar/café/festival in Limburg, twenty performances on twenty locations till now. Concert is send by 5 lcoal radios. Can be podcasted. Every Saturday the journalists publish in the newspaper a spin-off page about what’s going on on Limbolink: news, interviews, reviews, etc. Some local sponsors (a brewery, the province authority) have sponsored all these months, some occasionally (city of Hasselt, Dexia bank, a festival).
  The basic idea of your cross-media local project
   Basic idea is connecting all music makers of this province and then to connect them to the newspaper. Using new techniques for community building. What the newspaper is doing all over.
Audience segment: young people. To retain and to attract young people, new readers.
Nowadays it's hard for young musicians to get known. We give them a platform and maximum exposure.

  Results of the local project implementation
   At first thousand groups/musicians immediately. To-day four thousand.
Page views 9000 a month. October 2008-2009 one million page views.
Group is still growing because also older musicians find the way to Limbolink.
