After series of children accidents on playgrounds, one of which resulted in death of a 10-year old girl, it became obvious that most playgrounds do not fulfill even the basic safety standards. So, 24sata has called its readers to send pictures (per post, e-mail, MMS, video) of such dangerous playgrounds in order to initiate the solving of this problem in local communities. Our readers sent us, as User Generated Content (UGS), dozens of photographs. Some of them were published in our print editions (both in paid and free afternoon editions) and digital editions. We targeted our existing readers, who have recognized 24sata as a socially sensitive media and use it as a channel to influence changes. But we also wanted to sensitise the parents and the other members of (local) communities to be more aware of the children's safety and to encourage them to be more proactive in resolving the problems of their local communities - to participate in creating of a story and, by doing so, to influence the local decision makers. |
