Conditions of Participation 2010 |

1. General Information The XMA Cross Media Awards 2010 competition is organised by WAN-IFRA, the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers. The XMA Cross Media Awards 2010 is now firmly etablished as the international award for excellence in cross-media publishing of news products and services. The conditions of participation in the competition are listed in the following. The Awards will honour those publishing houses that have successfully connected with their local markets to become the No.1 resource for news, information and business opportunities, by employing a range of media channels, i.e print, online and mobile. Regardless of your local marketīsize, if you have implemented a cross-media 'local' project -whether it be content-related, business-related or ideally a project containing both elements-, you have the opportunity to enter and the chance to be recognised as a winner of the XMA Cross Media Awards 2010. Based on the competition criteria, an independent international jury will select the ten (10) best special projects. The Awards will be presented during IFRA Expo 2010 in Hamburg, Germany, where the prize winners will be featured in a special display, Hall 1.
2. Who is eligible to participate? All newspaper and magazine publishing houses are eligible to participate, independently whether they are daily or weekly publications. They can enter the competition with one or more application. A cross-media local project in the sense of the XMA Cross Media Awards 2010 must have a cohesive character, common hook or subject. Besides the local project in the newspaper or magazine, the cross-media local project must include at least one other media channel (online, mobile, podcast, special supplement, special DVD, book, webvideo, etc.).
3. How can publishing houses register for the IFRA XMA Cross Media Awards 2010? From March 1st to June 15th 2010, using any standard browser the information required to register can be entered into an online input mask provided for this purpose under www.wan-ifra.org/xma and then uploaded. 4. How are the winners selected? An independent jury of international newspaper and media experts evaluates the submitted entries. The individual jury members were chosen by WAN-IFRA and are presented online under www.wan-ifra.org/xma. Jury members may not evaluate titles with which they are associated either directly or indirectly. The jury works on a gratuitous basis. WAN-IFRA may refuse applications for registration that do not satisfy the stated conditions. The jury uses a scoring model to evaluate the nominated entries. WAN-IFRA and other media partners of the XMA Cross Media Awards 2010 will present the entries online, in print, by press release as well as at a special display at IFRA Expo 2010 in Hamburg. Winning publishing houses will each receive two season tickets for entry to IFRA Expo 2010 in Hamburg free of charge as well as two free invitations to attend the Award Ceremony on Monday 4th of October 2010 in Hamburg, at which the trophies will be awarded to the winning entries. All prize winners may make reference to their prize and their ranking in the competition in their advertising. The jury, if it sees fit to do so, may award a special prize. The decision of the jury shall be final with no legal recourse. With their application to register for the XMA Cross Media Awards 2010, participants recognise the conditions of participation, the nomination process, the decision of the jury and the exclusion of legal recourse. Winning publishing houses will each receive two season tickets for entry to IFRA Expo 2010 in Vienna free of charge as well as two free invitations to attend the Award Ceremony on October 14, 2010 in Vienna, at which the trophies will be awarded to the winning entries. All prize winners may make reference to their prize and their ranking in the competition in their advertising. The jury, if it sees fit to do so, may award a special prize. The decision of the jury shall be final with no legal recourse. With their application to register for the XMA Cross Media Awards 2010, participants recognise the conditions of participation, the nomination process, the decision of the jury and the exclusion of legal recourse.
5. Rights of use of the entries The participating newspaper publishing house expressly grants WAN-IFRA and other media partners of the XMA Cross Media Awards 2010 the non-exclusive right to use, reproduce, process, translate or shorten the entered documents, image material and texts free of compensation for purposes of presentation and publication online, in print, as e-paper or putting on display at events (e.g. IFRA Expo 2010 in Hamburg). This right covers the use of the necessary brand, author, design and other protected intellectual property rights and non-protected intellectual property rights of the participant for activities in connection with the organisation and presentation of the XMA Cross Media Awards 2010 and is limited to one year. The participating publishing house guarantees that it is the owner of the aforementioned rights. It shall exempt WAN-IFRA and its media partners from any legal disputes concerning infringements of rights that may arise from the described use of the submitted documents. The participant is responsible for the correctness of the information provided. The participating publishing house is responsible for the observance of all legal standards in connection with its special project. The attention of the participants is herewith called to the fact that in particular all author, brand and design rights as well as all other protected intellectual property rights must not be infringed and that equally all media, competition, cartel and criminal law regulations must be observed in the realisation of the project.
6. Handling fee and deadline A one-time handling fee will be charged per registered special entry. Included in this fee are all costs for provision of the necessary infrastructure to evaluate and judge the submitted work as well as presentation of the awards. The fees are as follows:
