  General information about the publication
   There are 4 newspapers: O Globo (circulation: 260.000 - weekends: 380.000, Extra (370.000 - weekends: 490.000), Diário de S.Paulo (75.000 - weekends: 90.000) and Expresso (new one!) (40.000 papers).
There are 2 online newspapers: O Globo Online (380.000 unique vistors per day and 3.200.000 unique visitors per month and Extra Online (new one!) (70.000 unique visitors per day).
There are 1 Digital Newspaper: Digital O Globo (new one!).

  Project description
   The site Globoonliners (http://www.globoonliners.com.br/) is the pioneer initiative of Globo Online in the arena of online Communities.
  The basic idea of our project
   This initiative is in line with the idea of making O Globo Online into a portal, with the offering of a wide-ranging menu of options for its readers. The goal of "Globoonliners" is much greater than being a mere relationship site: The idea is to become a meeting point where readers can collaboratively build journalistic site content, post information and discuss matters that are relevant to their daily lives, which should always be conceptually important for the site. The product was launched on May 2, still in its beta version, with its motto being the idea of making the most of the Pan American Games, as part of Infoglobo’s corporate project for the integration and synergy of print and online newspapers. The main characteristic of the site is the discussion of news items, with the reader registering in one or more communities, proposing topics and commenting on issues. The most read and commented upon communities and topics are showcased, motivating web surfers to participate even more. Additionally, the reader can “rate” these concepts, by recommending them to other readers; always in the spirit of valuing people’s opinions. One of the main differentiating ideas of the project is the possibility of personal participation, as the “Globoonliner” (the web surfer), in registering on the site, earns a blog, where he/she can make postings about issues that are of interest to him/her; as the tool allows for the personal blog posts to be automatically inserted as topics in communities, further increasing collective content management. Finally, the product has some typical functions of traditional community sites, such a making friends, leaving notes or writing messages. However, on “Globoonliners”, the site known as “My Home” allows a centralization of blogs and favorite communities, with each reader’s friends, notes and messages. That is to say, a personal home page with his/her preferential news and entertainment choices.
Project development was complicated: The tool used, ICOX, is a free software resulting from the partnership of the project development company Pontonet, the Business Intelligence Reference Center (CRIE) of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, with Infoglobo and other private companies. This partnership has already proven to be a great success.

  The Implementation
   There is a new editoria, called "Opinion" which is responsible to get all the customers coments, opinions, articles and photos, and manage them.
"Opinion" Editoria has to liven up and estimulate on participation the audience of Globoonliners, the community site. It is also the hole of others editorias, depending on the community's subject. For instance, the main subject of the Globoonliners' communities is the Pan-American Games, led by the "Sports" Editoria.

  Project results
   Results achieved to date:
1) Audience:
1.1) In less than 1 month from launch, there are already slightly more than 10,000 visitors/day.
1.2) The number of users has grown continuously since the site launch, even with the need to register, confirm e-mail and advertising with a specific subject.
2) None of the 5 most read/commented about blogs on “Globoonliners” is done by Infoglobo journalists.
3) A radical change in corporate culture with regards to the participation of the web surfer: Various content was linked to the Home Page and Sports Page.
4) Positive results serve as an example for the entire company, making possible/facilitating the positive vision of the other vehicles (paper) in the participation initiatives for web surfers.
5) The attraction of a new public can already be noted, who has an interested in tools that are even more interactive than those offered by the site.
6) With current results, there is already a project so that “Globoonliners”, during a new phase, may be sold as a new product in the Globo Online portfolio of products, as today it is part of the corporate Pan American Games project.
