Around 8 years ago, IFRA developed a vision of a publishing philosophy, which puts the audience and the story in the focus of all activities in a newsroom – the Newsplex was born.
The Newsplex philosophy stands for using the possibilities and strengths of different channels, to reach the audience at any given place, and at any given time via the most appropriate media.
In order to explain and demonstrate these fundamental changes of mindset and working methods to newspapers, IFRA built two research and training facilities for newsroom strategies and media convergent journalism.
The first one was built in 2002 at the University of South Carolina in the United States, with the financial support from our Newsplex directorate members.
The second one, Newsplex Europe, was opened in September 2005 in Darmstadt in Germany and is the headquarters of IFRA and the Newsplex operation.
At present, some 12 consultants and trainers provide services for IFRA members around the world. The international team consists of professionals from Germany, France, USA, United Kingdom, Sweden, Australia and Austria.
