Technologies make major advances, but business models remain sluggish

Throughput speeds are increasing, printing quality is good, colour printing is possible and even costs are showing positive trends. Users and manufacturers are developing concepts and starting projects for new areas of application, such as the personalised newspaper. Cooperation scenarios and distribution concepts are being investigated. Yet, replacement of the offset process is still not in sight – but new developments could bring surprises.
