newspaper techniques: In your experience, where is the development trend going?

Saxotech:
Publishing systems that represent the work processes of an integrated newsroom. The integrated newsroom serves all news channels: print, web and mobile. These publishing systems permit news processing at one workplace, in one interface. Moreover, there systems also take over the web edition with template-based layout. Besides there online CMS functions, these systems also have add-ons such as newsletter functions, web log, forum functionalities and polling modules in order to promote interaction with the readers.

nt: Which functions should be emphasised in your present system?

Saxotech:
- extensive editorial management tool
- efficient article and page layout, optionally with Quark or Adobe integration
- all types of media are served from one system and one interface
- integrated asset management: comfortable handling of all types of media, e.g. audio, video, Word, PDFs
- versatile online CMS functions, plus Community Modules (forum, web log, newsletter, etc.)

nt: What is to be expected in the near future (e.g. for IfraExpo)?

Saxotech:
- Extension of online admanagement with addition of online ad recording.
- support of integrated publication of print, online, TV and radio
- support of magazine production

nt: How do you judge the economic development of the newspaper market?

Saxotech:
Many newspapers report about stable to slightly rising ad revenues. Despite this, the newspaper industry will continue to face major challenges from Internet-based offerings and mobile services and be compelled to constantly innovate.

nt: How do you estimate the willingness of newspapers to invest in editorial systems?

Saxotech:
After a major wave of investment at the turn of the millennium and stagnating revenues in the industry, the willingness to invest in print editorial systems is cautious and reticent. This applies to the classical print solutions. With online solutions, it can be observed that many developments at present in use no longer satisfy demands and that the level of investment for own development operations is beyond the possibilities of the publishing houses. Consequently, there is a noticeably higher degree of interest in the area of online CMS.

nt: How do you see the supplier sector as a whole and your market share in particular?

Saxotech:
The competition on the supplier market is intense. There is a large number of suppliers offering competitive products. SAXOTECH Systems is still a newcomer on the market, but we have already gained a foothold with our systems. We see our future in media-independent publishing and plan to capture a share of the market in the coming years.
