  General Publication Info
Our Facebook page _ 'Gulf News Al Nisr Publishing UAE'. It is the social media channel for the flagship newspaper Gulf News, which is part of the Al Nisr Media LLc media group. Gulf News is the single largest privately-owned independent English newspaper in the UAE. It has an average circulation of 130,000, which is audited by BPA.

  Content
We publish top news stories, talking points, discussion threads, debates, photo competitions, video uploads, reader interactivity elements and community reports.

  Implementation and Working team
The Readers Desk team, which essentially functions as the Convergent Media section of the newspaper manages Facebook. It is directly linked to the newspaper as the team is part of the Editorial Team of the newspaper edition. Readers Desk manages all reader interactivity, across media platforms (print, digital and social media). Facebook is used by Readers Desk as a daily platform to provide the editorial floor direct feedback on content, reader response, tip-offs and as a crowd-sourcing tool. The Facebook page was created, populated and launched about a year ago.
It was introduced and promoted via the print edition with detailed editorial content, front page presence and also pushed on the website.
We use Facebook to harness social media as a journalistic tool for the newspaper, especially to develop reader-generated content, as a guide for editorial direction and as a resource base. The content created on Facebook gets pushed to print and the website (Example: Facebook Reader Picture Competition). Similarly, content from print gets pushed on the social media channel, which drives readership to the print edition and the website. It creates a cohesive brand sense and reading experience for the reader.
Editors curate stories for Facebook, which adds to the uniqueness of the platform experience but in turn drives debates, comments, feedback and tip-offs, that would feed the other platforms.
For a detailed presentation, please view the powerpoint presentation that has been attached to the entry.

  Additional comments
The Gulf News Facebook is an optimal example of how a newspaper can use it as an interactivity tool, as a journalistic resource base, a community platform and the building of brand extension.
