Idea and Implementation of your special project
Singapore Blog Awards (SBA) is omy.sg’s annual flagship event, and is a prestigious award to recognize and acknowledge tireless "new-age wordsmiths" who devote much time and energy in maintaining up-to-date and innovative blogs. Into its fifth year running in 2012, SBA hosted a total of 15 award categories, ranging from Food to Beauty to Parenting.
The main objective of the award is to populate omy.sg’s branding in the online world via social media channels like blogs, Facebook and Twitter and to engage with the online community, drawing them to visit omy.sg.
As omy.sg is a web business, online branding is of utmost importance to the portal’s long-term survival.
Organising the annual SBA allow omy.sg to engage directly with the top opinion leaders/heavy social media users in the online world – namely, the top/quality bloggers.
Along the process of running SBA, omy.sg amassed a database of over 3,000 quality bloggers over the years, neatly categorised into various expertises via the categories they joined – eg. Food, Lifestyle, Photography and Travel. This database of online social media pioneers and opinion leaders are important in omy.sg’s continual effort to engage with its users.
The awards is divided into three phases. In the first phase, the public is invited to nominate their favourite bloggers for the various award categories. Upon nomination, an email will be sent to the nominated bloggers to inform them of the nomination and prompt them to complete the registration process. Bloggers can also choose to register their blog directly.
In phase two, 100 finalists are selected across the ten main categories by the omy.sg editorial team. These finalists’ blogs are then put through public voting (30%) and scoring by a panel of professional judges (70%) to crown the ultimate winner in each category. Phase three is the physical award ceremony.

  Project results and results monitoring
The SBA is widely recognised as the most anticipated and biggest social media event for the Singapore bloggers community annually. It is also one of the main revenue earners for omy.sg, with sponsors and advertisers booked a year in advance and many repeat customers.
Every year, over 1,000 bloggers registered for the awards, and more than 60,000 votes were cast to support the bloggers over a 3-month period. For the finale award ceremony in the later half of the year, over 350 invited bloggers are invited witness the awards presentation in a closed door event.
On average, omy.sg sees an increase of 1 million page views every month during the SBA campaign period (figure via Nielsen Netratings, Jan 2012).
A search on the twitter hash tag, #sba2012 will reveal hundreds of tweets from excited bloggers throughout the campaign. In fact, last year, #sba2011 was the top-trended topic on both 23 and 24 July in Singapore (finale event day) - a remarkable feat for a short, three hours event, signifying the amount of online buzz a small group of 350 socially-connected individuals can generate.
The awards grew omy.sg’s Facebook and Twitter accounts membership substantially and saw more active discussion and interaction with the brand – http://twitter.com/omysg and http://facebook.com/omyfan
Last year, the SBA microsite homepage alone garnered over 5,000 Facebook and 200 Twitter shares.
Pushing the boundary of social media marketing further in 2011, omy.sg introduced LIVE photo sharing of the event in a partnership with technology company, CoolIris (http://www.liveshare.com); allowing bloggers to directly share their photos onto the SBA website homepage via their mobile phones or cameras. Location-based social tool, Foursquare was also introduced into the campaign, encouraging bloggers to “check-in” and share on the award ceremony with their friends and followers.
